The Towner Eastbourne has been collecting and exhibiting contemporary art since 1923. Towner’s Collection is best known for its modern British art, including the largest and most significant body of work by Eric Ravilious, and a growing collection of national and international contemporary art.
Awarded Art Fund’s Museum of the Year 2020, the gallery is a free and welcoming community space providing places for study and relaxation. It sits in the Eastbourne’s cultural centre, the Devonshire Quarter.
Our courses at The Towner
First year Creative Writing Programme, starting September 2026 on Tuesdays from 1.30-4pm.
Second year Creative Writing Programme, starting September 2026 on Thursdays 6.30-9pm. To discuss joining a second-year group, email us.
Taster sessions are being held at the Towner on Tuesday 14 July 2.30pm and Tuesday 8 September 2.30pm so you see if the course is for you.
The Eastbourne course is taught by Ruth Figgest and Sophie Anderson.

By train: Towner is a 12-minute walk to Eastbourne station where there are regular trains from London Victoria, London Bridge, Brighton, Bexhill, Hastings and Ashford.
By Bus: Buses 12, 12A, 12X, 13X, 3, 98 & 99 stop near Towner.
Cycling: Bike racks are available on Devonshire Quarter Plaza in front of Towner.

Pay and Display car parking is available in College Road Car Park, 100m from Towner which includes blue badge spaces.
Accessibility
The space is fully-accessible for wheelchair users. Guide, hearing, and assistance dogs are all welcome. The programme is taught on the ground floor studio.
