We hear a lot about the term life writing these days, but what does it actually mean? Surely all writing is in some way inspired by life?
Paula Lichtarowicz is the author of three novels and comes to writing after twenty years as a documentary-maker. She teaches at London’s City Lit and the University of the Arts and will be working with Rosie Chard on the new London-based Creative Writing Programme. Here she talks about how her first novel was inspired by a postcard, her journey to publication and offers some top writing tips.
Congratulations to our seven students who shared their work at our spring reading last night at Kemptown Bookshop, Brighton. They read a mixture of novels and memoirs in progress, flash fiction and poetry inspired by everything from loss, motherhood, racism, violence and the current state of the world.
Our Tuesday morning programme in Kemptown Bookshop, Brighton is now full so we’ve introduced a new day-time course on Wednesday mornings at the Jubilee Library in Brighton starting in October.
Last week we turned the tables on our tutors at our final reading for the academic year - they shared their works in progress with our students. Thanks to Laura Wilkinson, Ruth Figgest, Rosie Chard, Hannah Vincent, Sophie Anderson and Roy Mcfarlane for being brave and reading such different and brilliant work. An inspiring and emotional evening.
Congratulations to Carole Aubree-Dumont, alumni of the Creative Writing Programme, who won the Emerging Authors prize at this year’s Brighton Book Festival today with a reading from her memoir Dumb.
